As Captain of West Hove Golf Club this year I have chosen Table Talk Foundation as my chosen Charity. With obesity and general health a huge issue for society generally, this Charity goes to schools locally, teaching children good food education and also providing support to the hospitality industry. As my own fitness is not great currently, I have decided to start off small by doing the Brighton 10km on 2 April - should focus the mind and body!! There will be lots more days and things to come at West Hove Golf Club this year! Please donate if you can through my JustGiving page at: justgiving.com/page/stephen-chipp-1677610606032 My heartfelt thanks.
On a cold and very wet morning on Monday 26 March, Martin Emery managed to survive the abseil at Arundel Castle raising funds on behalf of our Junior Section for Chestnut Tree House, the hospice for children with life shortening illnesses. Martin would like to thank all of you for the donations you have made, contributing to a sum of more than £600. The Just Giving page will close on 15 April and if anybody would like to donate the address is as follows: justgiving.com/Martin-Emery5 A sincere thank you from Martin once again.
A fabulous night was had by all those who came to see "Suspiciously Elvis" on Saturday. It was a great turn out with over 80 attending and the brilliant Ivor Potter, (who also did a rather good Tom Jones!) had everyone swaying and singing along. Next on the social calendar is “Iconic Voices” & party set performed by the brilliant Jennie Castell on Saturday 20 May.
Our General Manager, Gary, celebrated his 50th Birthday last weekend and was treated to a surprise event at West Hove GC on Monday. He was lured onto the course with a proposal of a quiet fourball with Kevin Brown, Karen Dobson and Martin Emery, behind what he thought was a fairly large society. As he was playing, he began to notice that this society seemed to consist of various staff, committee and board members and after three hours of play it dawned on him that something was going on! At the end of the round on the 18th green, there was a raucous rendering of “Happy Birthday” from all the players on the balcony. Everyone then gathered in the lounge for sandwiches and chips, a small presentation and a golf themed birthday cake, courtesy of Debbie and Nick. We would like to thank all who took part in this event for keeping it under their hats until the day and also Gary’s family who were aware of what was going on but had not mentioned a word!
A great turnout for the Captain’s Drive In on what was a somewhat grey and grizzly November day. The new Club Captain, Steve Chipp drove in on his beloved motorbike alongside his children in a buggy driven by new Club President, Norman Milburn. After falling foul of the exploding ball, Steve eventually managed an impressive drive of 208 yards, 2 feet! Congratulations, Steve, sincere wishes for your year. The respective senior’s and junior’s Captains, Gordon Pedersen and George Gilgenkrantz also drove in. Well done to both and best wishes for the upcoming year.
The West Hove Junior Open took place on Sunday the 16th October which was an amazing success. This was down to the whole club pulling together, from the President and Captain, to everyone in the office, the catering team, the club professionals, the pro shop, the green staff, the bar staff, the volunteers and my team, Annika, Abigail & Thierry. I cannot thank everyone enough for making this the best Junior Open in the south east if not the country.
