Captains’ Weekend Report
Saturday & Sunday 6th/7th July
The Captain’s weekend took place on Saturday and Sunday and was a very enjoyable couple of days with all sections of the Club involved. I hope you enjoyed the delicious pastries, drinks beautifully served by Hannah, very tasty barbecue and entertainment on Sunday.
Saturday was a gorgeous sunny day. Over 100 entered the Captain’s Plate which was won by Mark Coombes with 41 points narrowly beating Jan Seabrook a previous winner on 40 points. Congratulations to Mark who won £150 voucher gift voucher for James Ross Jewellers, the Captain’s Plate and a Crystal Carafe.
Sunday the weather was not so good and we still had just under 80 enter the Captain’s Prize. This was won by Harry Harris (one of our juniors). Harry shot an amazing gross 67 (three under par) net 62 with 44 points playing with Gary Salt and Charlie Gilgenkrantz. Ian North came second with a very creditable 40 points beating Mark Davies on countback.
Harry supported by his parents Simon and Erica won a £100 gift voucher for James Ross Jewellers, the Captain’s Prize trophy and a Crystal Leander Jug. Congratulations Harry. We hope the first of many successes to come.
The other prizes and spot prizes will follow shortly.
Congratulations to all those who won prizes. Please collect your vouchers from the office and also your sleeve of balls for all those who matched or beat their handicap over the weekend.
I hugely enjoyed the weekend, meeting all the members and in particular the fun and laughter in the Marquee. Can I just say a huge thank you to all the members for your support on behalf of my wife Jas, Olivia my daughter and Emma Brockhurst Fund raising executive for Albion in the Community.
Thanks to your incredible generosity we have raised just under £2,700 with some donations still to come. This will go to my charity “Football for people with Autism”. This will make a big difference to these kids and their parents.
Lastly these events only succeed with the efforts of many behind the scenes. A very big thank you to the following. Howard Coulson for his incredible work on Match and Handicap. Mike Arthur for organising the drinks alongside a wedding reception for Carl Rodgers and Amber and a number of other events. Hannah for serving of drinks. Martin and Venky for superb catering. It was Martin’s birthday on the Sunday!
Gemma, Maddie and Corinne for their help. Ryan Fenwick, James Latter, Nigel Warren and Jasper Whiston for their patience! and support. Gary Salt and Karen Dobson for their terrific help. James Ross for his very generous prize donations and similarly Tates of Portslade for their backing.
