A beautifully bright day at Brighton and Hove GC was the setting for yesterday’s BDGS Mixed Cup. West Hove beat Dyke 4-1 in the morning and faced Brighton & Hove in the afternoon final.
The final was very well matched and basically came down to the last putt on the last green, fortunately for West Hove the pressure situation didn’t get the better of Jan “I’m a good putter” Seabrook who nestled her 8ft putt hole side to secure a half point and ultimately the BDGS Mixed Cup for West Hove. A sweet victory for the team and Team Captain Tony Humphrey. The team consisted of:
Tony Humphrey and Grace Shepherd
Gary Salt and Jan Seabrook
Pete Rodger and Julie James
Jeff Rhodes and Michele Tyson
Keith Fender and Lynne Henshaw
The bigger picture was the BDGS Victor Ludorum Order of Merit, points are accumulated throughout the BDGS season to find the Champion Club, the winning of the Mixed Cup provided enough points for West Hove to secure this prestigious honour - West Hove winners of the BDGS Victor Ludorum!
It has been 11 years since West Hove last won the OOM event and it was a proud moment for all involved, none less than the Captain Martin Emery who has been an ever present this year - his support and wise counsel have been invaluable to all of the players and his “pep talks” are something else!
West Hove Vice - Captain David Gillies and West Hove Mixed Team Captain Tony Humphrey accepted the honours at the presentation and thanked all members who took part for their efforts, everyone played their part.
