West Hove triumph in the BDGS Intermediate Cup

BDGS Intermediate Cup Report Prepared by Team Captain Mike Whitty

It was a glorious and tense day with West Hove beating East Brighton in the morning round 3.5 to 1.5, Brighton and Hove GC beat the Dyke GC in the morning meaning that West Hove GC were due to play in the final in the afternoon against Brighton and Hove GC.  The Dyke played East Brighton in the Plate which the Dyke GC won.

The West Hove team,  none of whom had played this format together previously, all chosen from the list originally posted on the competition notice board were specially selected on the basis of their past 12 months competition performance. This convention establishing that it is not necessary for the team to be chosen from those who played together previously, proving the transparency that ALL members within the handicap parameters are welcome to enter.  It is also of note that three of the players were aged between 60 and 70 years:

Mike Whitty (Team Captain) & Mark Grantham

Kevin Brown & Rob Haggart

Mark Davies & Paul Northam

Ben Jordan & Ivan Parnell

Jeff Rhodes & Steve Nielsen

This team beat Brighton & Hove 3 to 2 winning the BDGS Intermediate Cup for the 9th time in the past 25 years.  Although we lost two games all the players were winners and brought the trophy home to West Hove gaining a total of 25 points in the Victor Ludorum race and putting West Hove in 1st place.

I firstly, would like to thank the team for a wonderful effort and commitment and to thank the Captain, David Gillies along with the man in the long coat offering the players sweets (our President Brian Hazelgrove)  for coming to see us and spurring us on.

Congratulations

Mike Whitty - Team Captain
